MID와 UMPC, Netbook이 화두로 떠오르는 요즘, 성능과 전력이 함께 관심을 모으고 있다. 현재 CPU는 크게 Intel의 ATOM 프로세서, AMD의 튜리온64  프로세서, VIA의 C7-Mobile 프로세서를 사용하고 있다. 아래 동영상은 ARM의 Cortex-A8 프로세서가 ATOM 프로세서과 동급성능임을 보여 주는 데모 동영상으로 확인되고 있다.

Linux 및 Windows를 동시에 사용할 수 있는 아톰프로세서는 ARM 프로세서의 경우 임베디드 시스템에 사용되거나 Linux OS를 구동할때 사용되는 CPU기 때문에 아톰 프로세서의 경우와 조금 다른 양상을 보여준다. 이 ARM의 경우 모바일 스마트폰 또는 MID에 적합할 것으로 생각된다.


동영상을 보면 ARM의 Cortex-A8 (500MHz)와 Intel의 ATOM Z510 (800MHz)를 비교할 경우, 평균 페이지 로딩 속도에서 1.3초 가량 ARM이 늦지만, 이를 800MHz로 환산을 할 경우에는 오히려 ARM의 Cortex-A8 프로세서를 사용하는 것이 더 빠를 것으로 예상된다.

물론 1.3초~1.6초 가량의 시간이 체감하기에는 힘든 시간으로 이를 바탕으로 우위를 논하는 것은 무리라고 생각된다. 그보다는, 언제 어디서나 사용 가능한 인터넷 기기를 위해서는 전력소모를 얼마나 줄일 수 있는 지가 관건이다. 모바일 부문에서 강력한 입지를 구축하고 있는 ARM이 추후 PC영역까지 넘볼 수 있기를 기대한다.

Kohjinsha presented its 7-inch UMPC(Netbook) 'S 130' featuring INTEL ATOM processor Z520(1.33GHz). It features 7-inch LCD supporting 1024x600(WSVGA) resolution, DDR2 1GB memory, 60GB HDD, Intel Poulsbo Chipset, GPS(SiRF Star III), DMB, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR, 4-In-1 Card Slot, Express Card Slot, D-Sub, 1.3M Web camera, USB x 2, Microphone, Headphone, Stereo Speaker, keyboard total 81Key and Unknown battery life. I think it is 2 ~ 3hr battery life.

Product is Dimensions 189(W) x 155(D) x 25.4(H)mm. Weighing only 798g, the S130 comes two different colors such as black and white. Not supporting Super-Multi Drive. According to the company, it will be launched in Japan, China, Hong-Kong and Singapore continuously.
Suggested price is between 849,000(KRW) and 999,000(KRW).
